"Runnin' From This," the third single from Snatam Kaur's upcoming album, Heartflow, is a sweetly playful yet insightful folk song sung entirely in English. Snatam's tenderly shimmering vocals are complemented by two acoustic guitars and soulful slide guitar lines, while the lyrics explore being present to the pleasures of both silent meditation and the most precious aspects of day-to-day life — oneself and those closest to us — and the irony of drawing away from their peace and joy. Based on a poem Snatam wrote after meditating, she composed the song with band members Sukhmani Rayat and Ram Dass.
"We recorded the track live, and it just came together magically," said Snatam. “I've practiced chanting meditation my whole life, but after the pandemic, I began experimenting with sitting in silence and found it phenomenal to experience a beautiful place of inner quiet and peace within. Turning inward has helped me grasp the workings of the mind and some tendencies toward anxiety and fear while also finding a sense of self-love and self-worth and how our connection with the divine is not something that must be chased or sought after. 'Runnin' From This' is a nudge to remain present, stop the running, and return to one's center."
The track is available on Be Why Music and features Ram Dass on guitar, Grecco Buratto on guitar, KJ Song on vocals, Richard Hinman on Pedal Steel, and Sukhmani Rayat on percussion.
